Concessions & Exploration Areas
Egypt's gas provinces: the offshore Mediterranean, the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.
Concession areas
Three gas provinces, one counterparty
EGAS manages gas exploration and production acreage across the offshore Mediterranean, the onshore Nile Delta and gas-prone areas of the Western Desert.
Each area is held under a concession agreement between the Egyptian state, EGAS and one or more international or local contractors. Agreements define the exploration period, minimum work commitments, cost recovery and production-sharing terms, and the conditions for converting a commercial discovery into a development lease.
Acreage that is not under contract, or that has been relinquished by previous holders, is offered back to the industry through international bid rounds.

Offshore Mediterranean
Deep water, giant discoveries
The offshore Mediterranean is Egypt's most prolific gas province, from shallow-water fields off the Delta coast to deep-water plays such as Zohr, discovered by Eni in 2015 and brought on stream in December 2017. Frontier acreage further offshore remains under-explored and is a focus of recent bid rounds.

Nile Delta
Mature basin, new plays
The onshore Nile Delta has produced gas for decades and is served by dense processing and pipeline infrastructure. Deeper and stratigraphic plays continue to deliver new discoveries that can be tied in quickly and at low cost.

Western Desert
Onshore gas with existing access
The Western Desert hosts gas and condensate fields alongside oil production, with access to processing plants and the national grid. Gas-prone areas offer onshore operating costs and shorter lead times to first gas.
