EGAS Sustainable Development Strategy
Energy security, decarbonisation and shared prosperity — how EGAS supports Egypt Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Sustainable development
Gas as a bridge — and a responsibility
Natural gas powers Egypt's growth today while enabling the transition to a lower-carbon energy system. Our strategy is to deliver both — reliably, safely and responsibly.
The EGAS Sustainable Development Strategy translates national priorities into commitments across the natural gas value chain. It rests on a secure and affordable energy supply, measurable decarbonisation of our operations, protection of the environments in which we work, and shared prosperity for the communities and workforce that make our industry possible.
The strategy applies to EGAS, its subsidiaries and its joint ventures with international partners, and is embedded in investment decisions, operating standards and performance reviews. We report on our progress every year.
Aligned with national and global goals
Egypt Vision 2030
Delivering the energy pillar of the national agenda
Egypt's Sustainable Development Strategy: Vision 2030 calls for a secure, efficient and diversified energy sector that supports inclusive growth. EGAS contributes by securing domestic supply, extending gas to homes and industry, developing Egypt's role as a regional energy hub and reducing the environmental footprint of the sector.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
Contributing where our impact is greatest
Our programmes contribute most directly to SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 14 (life below water), supported by partnerships under SDG 17.
Climate commitments
Supporting Egypt's climate agenda
Our emissions programmes support Egypt's National Climate Change Strategy 2050 and the momentum created when Egypt hosted COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022, with a focus on flaring, methane and energy efficiency in the oil and gas sector.

Strategic priorities
From commitment to measurable results
Step 1
Identify material issues
We assess the economic, environmental and social issues that matter most to Egypt, our partners and our stakeholders.
Step 2
Set targets
Priorities are converted into targets for flaring, methane, safety, local content and community investment.
Step 3
Integrate into operations
Targets are built into field development plans, operating budgets and joint-venture work programmes.
Step 4
Monitor & verify
Performance is tracked through HSE reporting, audits and periodic management reviews.
Step 5
Report transparently
Results are disclosed annually in our sustainability reporting.
