Sustainability

Environmental Protection

Protecting seas, coastlines, water and biodiversity wherever we explore, produce and transport gas.

Environment

Leaving the environment as we found it — or better

Our operations span the deep waters of the Mediterranean, the Nile Delta, the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez. Each is a distinct ecosystem that deserves care.

Our environmental programme focuses on protecting Mediterranean and Red Sea marine ecosystems around our offshore operations, managing produced water and waste responsibly, and restoring land and habitats affected by our facilities and pipeline corridors.

Every project begins with an environmental baseline and impact assessment, and monitoring continues throughout its life.

Focus areas

What we protect

Biodiversity

Habitat surveys, sensitive-area planning and coastal restoration around our sites.

Marine protection

Offshore monitoring, discharge controls and oil-spill preparedness.

Water stewardship

Produced water is treated and re-injected, never discharged untreated.

Waste management

Reduce, reuse and recycle, with licensed handling of hazardous waste.

Air quality

Monitoring emissions around plants to protect neighbouring communities.

Land restoration

Reinstating pipeline corridors and planting green belts around facilities.

Protection in practice

Caring for the Mediterranean and the Red Sea

Marine

Caring for the Mediterranean and the Red Sea

Offshore operators carry out seabed and water-quality surveys before and during development, apply strict controls on discharges from platforms and vessels, and maintain oil-spill response plans and equipment tested through regular exercises.

Every drop accounted for
02

Water

Every drop accounted for

Produced water is separated, treated and re-injected into reservoirs, while plants reduce freshwater use through recycling — an essential discipline in a water-scarce country.

From waste to resource

Waste

From waste to resource

Drilling cuttings, chemicals and industrial waste are segregated, tracked and treated by licensed contractors; scrap metal and other materials are recovered and recycled wherever possible.

The environments we share

From coastal wetlands to open sea and desert, our footprint touches many of Egypt's landscapes.

Environmental questions

Are environmental impact assessments required for new projects?

Yes. Under Egyptian environmental law, new projects require an environmental impact assessment approved by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency before work begins.

How are offshore oil or chemical spills handled?

Operators maintain tiered spill-response plans, trained teams and equipment, coordinated with national authorities and tested through regular drills.

What happens to produced water?

Produced water is treated and re-injected into reservoirs or disposed of under permit; it is never discharged untreated.

People and communities

Our social responsibility goes hand in hand with environmental care.
