Who We Are

Our History

Two decades of discoveries, infrastructure and partnerships that reshaped Egypt's energy map.

Since 2001

From a new holding company to a regional hub

EGAS was created to consolidate the state's natural gas activities at the moment Egypt's gas production was about to take off.

In the early 2000s, deep-water discoveries in the Nile Delta, the construction of the Idku and Damietta LNG plants and the rapid expansion of the national grid required a dedicated national gas company. EGAS became that company.

Some fifteen years later, the Zohr discovery and its record-speed development returned Egypt to self-sufficiency and restored LNG exports — the defining achievement of the company's second decade.
